Hello everyone and welcome back to the Electronic Music Alliance - March 2020 Newsletter! It's time for us to transmit our monthly update and keep you awesome Earthlings in the loop of the latest news from our orbiting EMAlien Mothership!
Firstly though, we just want to extend our thoughts and well wishes to everyone in regard to Coronavirus - stay safe and follow the guidelines of your respective countries to help combat this together! Also, to all the health workers caring for the sick and everyone looking after the more vulnerable, we say thank you - you are all legends! As for EMA, we'd like to say thanks to everyone who continues to support us and our artists by sharing all the good vibes on Twitter! It's been another beat-tastic month with more tunes being released through the community run Electronic Alliance Records label, more mixes on our EMA DJ Mix Series and we have a more in depth look at this month's Featured Artist, TygerTyger! First, let's start with a look at the ol' numbers! EMA Community
It's been another awesome month for the EMA community as more Earthlings are warming to the electronic music and positive vibes we're spreading here! Another milestone has been reached as we now have over 150 members and we're getting very close to 4,000 awesome people who are following our EMA Twitter account - it seems that a lot of you know where you can find a plethora of EMAzing electronic music! Here's a look at these numbers:
As ever, a huge thank you to everyone for the continued support! We're very grateful to you EMAzing followers and a big shout as well to our EMAliens on the Mothership making it such a fun and vibrant place to be! Looks like we will need another engineer call out to upgrade our city - these call outs are getting expensive!
Regular Playlists
We have our regular weekly "hot off the press" EMA playlists going across the platforms that you listen to the most featuring tracks no older than 3 months from our members. To help rotate the latest beats, we've also added the Apple Music and Hearthis platforms to our rotation so there's no shortage of places where you can find our music! Here's a little reminder of our schedule:
Featured Playlist
Featured Playlist debutante "Gribbles" comes up with a really cool concept with his "Crop Circles - EMA Calling Cards" playlist as he asked each of the EMAliens to send over their favourite track to include here! So this really is a showstopper in terms of the EMAliens bringing their best music to the fray. Maybe these tracks are responsible for the crop circles... who knows? Here's that very playlist below and, in his own words, if you like anything you hear, please consider following the artist on Spotify and social media:
EMA DJ Mixes
We have continued the EMAzing vibes from the EMA DJ Mix Series each week thanks to Miss EfeMBy and Radio Dark Tunnel. We have a 1 hour slot after Efemby's Techno Diaries on Wednesday evenings from 17:00-20:00 UTC where our EMAliens showcase their mixing talents along with a host of cool electronic music ranging from downtempo to house to drum and bass. Stream the latest mixes below:
Electronic Alliance Records
Our community run label Electronic Alliance Records continues to grow with a few more releases this month from our legendary bunch of producers as more EMAliens look to beam down their beats to planet Earth! Make sure you follow us on our Beatport page to keep in the loop about the latest releases. Wrap your EARs around these:
Future Sounds Anthology Vol. 2
Following the success of our Future Sounds Anthology Vol. 1, which launched to celebrate our 1 year anniversary, we thought we'd release new compilations of this series every quarter, with the next installment coming out on Friday 3rd April! There is a bit of a theme going with this release but you'll have to see if you can figure it out after release day!
Thanks to all the EMAliens who got on board with this release, we really can't wait to share this one with you! Featured Artist
Each month the Featured Artist section of our newsletter gives us a chance to find out more about on of our awesome EMAliens. So, for this month's newsletter, we're going to feature one of our "High Flyers" and all round pie loving goddess - TygerTyger! We sent the brave Nicky Havey on a scouting mission to see if we can find out more about Her Royal Pieness!
Hey hey TygerTyger! Congratulations on getting to the High Flyer status! I'm sure we're all looking forward to this one! So, who is Her Royal Pieness aka TygerTyger aka PiegerPieger?? Tell us a bit about yourself and how you got involved with music but most importantly, why you’re known by these frankly wonderful nicknames? Haha
Haha! Ok, so first things first, I actually started singing at the age of 1 and then any instrument that was in the house was abused by myself for as long as I can remember! Any instrument I could find I would play and I’ve always been singing - my grandmother also had a huge piano but I've always been surrounded by instruments.
I was a bit of a weird kid – I read a lot and started reading Shakespeare when I was 5! When I was 7, I fell in love with Classical Music as my Aunt would bring me to the opera and concerts once every two weeks when I was in boarding school in Paris. Jazz and Blues came a little later when I was about 10. I’ve always been in to tribal music and any form of music interested. Love Bluegrass, hate Country (this is the only genre you can beat me with a stick with)!
My most dominant heritage is my Russian heritage because it’s the culture I grew up in, I am also partially German, Austrian, Mongolian with a little bit of Syrian thrown in so a real mix of genetics.
I’ve listened to so much stuff in my life but in terms of female vocalists, Kate Bush influenced me a lot, Tori Amos too. I love Peter Gabriel. When it comes to music, Bauhaus, Dead Kennedies, Black Flag, Motorhead, Kiss, David Bowie (when he died, my heart broke as he was someone I’ve always wanted to work with), Queen (another one that got away was Freddie Mercury as I’d have loved to work with him too!), Prince, I’d have loved to work with him – there’s just so many influences! I have a soft spot for Mozart but Bach’s complicated structures mesmorised me. When I was about 7 or 8 years old, my Aunt brought me to this concert in a Church where they played this big Church organ and it was Bach – I was in love AND THEY LET ME TOUCH THE PIPE ORGAN! I’ll never forget that, it was great!
When it comes to classical singers and those who influenced me Maria Callas is another who warmed my heart, Enrico Caruso (love his voice) and I have a big thing for 1920s and 1930s music, particularly rag time. I had an extensive collection of gramophone discs before coming to the USA – just loved it – a part of me is stuck in that era, I’m not sure why!
Basically everything influences me from the 1 man travelling band to tribals, Celtic music, Irish folk, even rap music as long as it has meaning… but yeah, it ALL influences me! TygerTyger comes from the poem by William Blake, “Tyger Tyger burning bright, in the fores of the night” – I was in a relationship with a guy who was afraid of me and he gave me a handwritten version of that poem and it kinda stuck. Since then I’ve been using it for pretty much everything! PiegerPieger – YOU DID THAT TO ME! As everyone in EMA knows, my favourite food is pie! It’s the food of the Gods! However, say it after me, “No imposter pies!” You guys can keep the sweet potato and pumpkins but all the other pies are mine!
Haha! Well, you are the Empress of Pie so we couldn't let that one slip by! What an awesome collection of influences though, it's not very often we feature Classical music in our blogs so it's been awesome to find that out about you! How have all these influences impacted with the type of music you make?
You can probably guess that I make everything except country! Whatever tickles my fancy, one of my many voices will come out to play so I don’t really have a set genre but I always try to put a little twist and some harmonies. I layer vocals over each other depending on what comes in to my head.
OK, so we must never mention "Country Music" again...that may not happen now you said it! Now, I know we have worked on a couple of projects, maybe we can enlighten the good readers on these - do you have anything else going as well?
I have the Nebula track with you Nicky and the Gabriel remix track, which is part of a mini EP that came from a series of dreams I had. Then you asked if you could do a DnB version and I let you go for it! So far, that’s all at the moment. I’m waiting for people to send me tracks to collab with but I’ve been really sick and not feeling well, things with my personal life and my neurological condition will continue to affect me and add to that the coronavirus misery.
I did a tour once but it wasn’t for me and I just want the right people to find my music and like it. I’ll keep doing as many collaborations as I can – I like making song babies with people!
Yep, song babies are great fun to make haha! I did enjoy working on the remix of Gabriel and can't wait to share the Nebula collaboration with everyone soon as well! So, our final piece of the pie (ha!) - How did you get involved with EMA?
I think it was from Spotlight on the Artist and D-Vine was talking to you or I was sharing music and the EMA Founders were in there. You guys invited me in with a few others on that show, fed me pie and I took over the naughty corner and the rest is history! I’m definitely most active in EMA, Second Life & Open Simulator. You are my most talked to people on the planet and I love you very much.
Well, we love having you with us as well and you've definitely been keeping that Naughty Corner well occupied, certainly no dust collecting in that part of the Mothership haha! Make sure you follow TygerTyger by clicking on the icons below
We hope you have enjoyed this month’s newsletter, let us know in the comments below and catch you soon for the next one!
Yours EMA (Bufinjer, DaveyHub & Nicky Havey)
