Greetings everyone and welcome to this edition of EMA's Spotify Playlist! As we mentioned in the August 2020 Newsletter, we'll be changing the way we present these showcases of talent from the EMAliens to give each artist a bit more time to shine and share the story behind their tracks!

The EMA playlists are selected by
Bufinjer and Nicky Havey, with the stories shared from what the producers have written themselves about their tracks to help you connect even more more with their music. So, without further ado, here is this month's Spotify playlist for you to enjoy, with the comments from the producers underneath - let us know if you're enjoying this new format in the comments!

Tracklist

Picture

Gribbles & Quiddity - Digital Narcotics

Written for Llamasoft's latest psychedelic particle and ungulate filled blaster, Moose Life. Whilst writing the game, Jeff (Minter, the game author) was listening to lots of psytrance - this was my attempt to write something in a similar vein along with it's sister track Psymoose.

Thanks to Jeff's proclivity for immersive experiences, we've been describing some of his more intense games as 'Digital Narcotics' for a while - a fast track trip to The Zone.

Picture

Primaudia & iconDARK - Heptagon (Primaudia Mix)

Heptagon was originally created by fellow artist iconDARK. As part of our Blood Drive EP we opted to remix one another's tracks. I chose Heptagon because I knew there were so many ways I could remake this in a dark synth styling. Hope you enjoy the result

Picture

Hydro Fyter - Spector I

The latest one from Hydro Fyter is Spector I. It was released on 8/21/2020 on the new album Spector/Phantom/Visions. Spector, Phantom, Visions are songs designed to be listened to as a whole or individually as specific parts. Lo-fi loops are used to glue variations of evolving synthesizers, percussive heavy beats and piano driven ambience with each part dynamically growing with intensity.

Picture

Andrew Gabriel - 18430 Balzac

This spacey track with a deep kick and some mad basses is perfect for any dance floor and the major super synth will make this a perfect addition to any edm festival set.

Picture

HootGun - Jus' Livin'

Like all the tracks on this EP, it had been hanging around for a bit not really doing much. I thought I'd have a good clean up and get a few things out of my way so I could "start fresh" so to speak. Nothing groundbreaking, but boy it felt good to get them all out of my head.

Picture

Gribbles - Oh Yeah! (Cylotron's Hell Yeah! remix)

Cylotron - Regardless of what everyone says about him, Cylotron is A O K in my book!

Picture

ØLSKXX & Stick Up Boys - King of Mount Trytra

The Stick Up Boys sing tongue-in-cheek lyrics about isolation in a faraway land with a dandy laissez faire attitude, complementing the psychedelic mood of ØLSKXX's production, which is inspired by the big beat and trip hop eras.

Picture

Skaarl - Efemby Mixes Acid

A track inspired by Efemby mixing acid on The Techno Diaries

Picture

Empty Sea - Charley

By way of description, this track "Charley" bears no relation to "Charly" by The Prodigy, except they borrowed my sample and used it about 30 years before I got around to it. One comment I received on Soundcloud:

"According to Mark Badinson, Charley is a surreal ambient journey that has great distinctive rhythmic composition, production and calming vibe."

Picture

Hegstraction - A U F G E H T S!

Auf geht's in German translates to Let's go! This is a fast-paced techno track with a floating 'heart' beat that dovetails with the next single in this album featuring real sampled heartbeats. The track has high speed complex percussive elements with synths that drive to the end of the track at full throttle matching the feeling of speed in the cover artwork - 'Trainstation' by Kuehlung1 (on Twitter)

Picture

Trip - Labrynth (Revisited)

One of my personal favorite tracks of mine, written over a year ago , I wanted to dust it down , make some changes then remaster, this is the result !!!

Picture

Adrian Earnshaw - In Ganymede's Shadow

In Ganymede's Shadow is an Ambient Electronic Space Music composition. This track is built on two repeating chords going major to minor with a transition to a minor 4th every now and again to keep a little interest. The composition is very similar in style to those by Vangelis in his Rosetta album and I took my inspiration from there

Picture

DaveyHub - Heliocentrism (Eonlake's Diamond Rain Remix)

I wanted to try a slightly faster halftime feel for the remix with a little more dub delay like the original, and find a way to harmonically reframe some of the original stems for this to get a different feel and some emotive push. The mix builds towards this in the final section.

Picture

Bufinjer - Shortwaves

This track is one I did that I wanted to have some energy in it. I started it as more of a house track, then added some techno style to it, and it's morphed into a Tech House track. It has my classic heavy beats, but more club style synths. I did a lot of effects to change the synths up to try to make them sound unique

Picture

DaveyHub - Heliocentrism (Nicky Havey's Neptune Remix)

After DaveyHub's amazing original, he let 8 other EMAliens remix his Heliocentrism track and this is my liquid dnb take on it. Inspired by the sounds of Commix, I wanted to keep much of the original elements and gently increase the tempo to my natural heart rate at 174 BPM

Picture

Electrostatic Nightmare Disco - Milk Stain

Well I wanted to try doing something a little bit more melodious than my usual hard drum industrial noise and a little bit Bodzin like and this is what I came up with. I love the minimal drum track on this and the bass so I couldn't resist sticking a miximinute on the end consisting of just those two elements

Picture

Jinen Tronic - Watching You Love (But I Want To Love)

Heres my track Watching you love (but I want to love). Its about a robot who watches the humans around him fall in love, which he wants to be able to experience, but he can't as he's a robot!

Picture

mAncient - A Star Is Reborn @ Hotel Odeon

"Crafted on Garageband and iPhone, mAncient from Norway delivers ethereal genius throughout his 2020 release. The quality is total, a cut above. He calls it "EARTH HOUSE" and that's accurate, it's of this planet but something new and enchanting is offered. It's healing music! And I don't mean twee, it's seriously Zen, awe inspiring.

I love every track, the electronic palette and tempo varies and your mind will travel to deep and mysterious terrains, some clubby and urban, others out of this world. And so... there I was chilled still when "A Star is Reborn @ Hotel Odeon" commenced. A true wow moment!

As an artist mAncient has history, lineage. He's wise, a monk, a healer and make no mistake when his guttural bluesy chanting starts to bubble under the soundscape of this song you will be blown away. No apology for a cliche there! You need to hear this, soak it up, the ancient paths, the compassion, the beauty. Enough said! Check it out. Essential!"

Ambrose Chappel & Ikashflo - Gimme Love (Stick Up Boys Summer Vibes Remix)

The anonymous musical treasure hunters from Brightonwith their latest remix of the underground and ledgendary Ambrose Chappel and Ikashflow single of pure solid gold hip hop

We hope you enjoy this new format of sharing the music and that you enjoyed the tunes! Be sure to follow the playlist and support the artists by giving them a follow as well! We'll catch you soon for the next one!

Yours

EMA
